Jean Murray (A.R.A.D / A.I.S.T.D)
Teaching staff - Senior School Ballet
Jean trained with Gillian Quinn who was the Director of the North of England College of Dance. After her training she danced professionally for three years in theatre, cabaret and on television. She then went back to become Miss Quinn's assistant and when Miss Quinn was appointed as an RAD examiner, Jean ran the college when she was away examining.
In 1974, Jean came to Edinburgh and began teaching with the Manor School of Ballet. She has taught with the school ever since and she is mainly responsible for Senior Grade Ballet and the Scholars of The Manor School. Jean enjoys choreographing for the school productions and the Childrens Classic Concerts accompanied by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Her main areas of teaching are vocational graded exams for both the RAD and ISTD and she is also an appointed mentor for The Royal Academy of Dance certificate in ballet studies.
Jean is the longest standing member of staff at the Manor School, however, she no longer teaches regular weekly classes. We are extremely fortunate that she has remained with us to advise and assist with exam coaching and show choreography. Jean's expertise is irreplaceable.
