NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2017


Welcome back to everybody and a warm welcome to any new pupils joining us for the second term of the 2016/2017 academic year. We hope you have all had a lovely Christmas holiday and we wish you all a very Happy New Year. This term is set to be a busy time leading us through to the spring but first here's a little recap on how things finished up in 2016.


We ended 2016 with a couple of school fundraising events; in October we had our annual fancy dress Halloween party at Hampton Terrace which was fully booked and lots of fun. This year we had visitors from "Cool Creatures" at the party where the children had the opportunity to handle some creepy crawlies and snakes. The handlers also allowed the party goers to meet a couple of Meerkats and a Skunk which were a little less frightening and very popular.


In December we held our first ever school Fair, which replaced our Christmas carol evening as this year's big fundraiser. The fair was very well attended and we raised the fantastic sum of £2500 which will support the on-going maintenance and operational running costs of the Main School as well as providing much needed funding to replace fixtures and fittings and hopefully a couple of new music machines for classes. Thank you so much to everybody who supported us, whether you bought raffle tickets, baked cakes, came along and danced, sang a song or two, ran a stall, face painted or created endless ballet buns and hair styles, we simply can't thank you enough for supporting the event and helping us to raise the necessary funds to keep us operating at Hampton Terrace.


Exam news last term: - We had a large number of pupils sitting R.A.D class award exams and U.K.A Jazz, Tap and Highland awards. Certificates, results and medals have arrived over the Christmas holidays and we will be distributing these in classes over the next few weeks of term. Well done to all the pupils who took part, we are delighted to report strong results across the whole school.


Congratulations and a big well done must also be extended to our scholarship students who completed the year for us dancing with the R.S.N.O annual Children's Classic Concert performances at The Royal Glasgow Concert hall and the Edinburgh Usher hall. We have received wonderful feedback in the school office again this year and we're extremely proud of all the girls who took part. We are most fortunate to be able to offer our Scholars this wonderful opportunity each year and we deeply value our longstanding connection with RSNO Classic Concerts because we know that the experience of dancing alongside a live orchestra is becoming more and more of a rarity these days for dance students in any performing arts school.


Show News: As you will be aware, the Manor school of Ballet offers a performance opportunity bi- annually to all our pupils by alternating the junior and senior school shows. We recognise the important role that performance plays in dance training and we know that our pupils enjoy the show work more so than anything else. It is of course vital to find the correct balance between study, training and performance to ensure regular progress is made achieving the graded syllabi set out by our external examination boards while still being able to develop the skills and confidence that performance requires when dancing leaves the studio and goes on stage.


This year is scheduled for a senior school production and we will be returning to the Church Hill Theatre from 11th June - 17th June 2017 to perform our new production of "The Glass Slipper" Cinderella's Story. All senior school pupils will be invited to participate and show application letters will be issued shortly. Please note however that show participation requirements have now changed for the senior school productions in line with all amateur dramatic / performing societies and a minimum number of seats per performer must be sold as a mandatory entry requirement. This ruling has had to be implemented to ensure that the school doesn't run at a financial loss with the production and theatre costs. Please can we also take this opportunity to remind everyone that show entry forms will not be accepted after the stated closing date. The deadline for returning forms is carefully issued to allow our production team the necessary time to arrange costume ordering and delivery.


Drop in Classes: - Please remember that our Main school drop in classes are open to anyone wishing to give dancing a try. Why not start 2017 with a new challenge and come along to get fit. Adult Tap is on Monday evenings at 7.15pm, Babies 18-36 months is on Tuesday mornings at 9.30am & Adult Ballet is on Wednesdays at 6.45pm. All these classes are pay as you go and do not require registration. We would love to see you there.


Facebook: - Just a little reminder to all senior pupils and parents that the school does have an active Facebook account which is seeing more regular usage. We would like to encourage as many parents as possible to join us on Facebook. It's a great way to keep up to date with any school information. Please note however that although we will respond to messages coming in via Facebook we cannot guarantee these will be responded too in the same timely manner as responding to messages through the school office.
